Monday Evenings, 6:30-9:30 pm

Class Dates: July 20, 27; August 3, 10, 17, 24

Instructor: Charlie Evergreen

Location: Wheel Studio 1

Skill Level: Intermediate, Advanced

By pulling and collaring in the rim of a pot until the form is completely closed, you can create a pillow of air inside your clay; the trapped air provides natural counter-pressure as you push against and refine the form from the outside.

In this class, we'll explore how closed forms can serve as the foundation for a wide range of functional pieces. Forms we’ll tackle include lidded boxes, salt shakers, teapots, ewers, butter dishes, and double-walled bowls. Students will also have the opportunity to experiment with altered or combined forms, and consider the sculptural potential of closed forms as decorative objects.
