Tuesday Mornings, 10 am - 1 pm
Class Dates: June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; July 7
Instructor: Gaines Bailey
Location: Wheel Studio 1
Skill Level: Intermediate, Advanced
Ready to be bowled over? In this class, Gaines will lead participants on an exploration of the wide range of possibilities within this familiar shape. Students will work to develop the skills needed to consistently achieve the flowing curve of a well-formed bowl. We’ll dive into how details like rims, trimmed feet, volume, and weight affect both form and function—and how thoughtful design can enhance a bowl’s purpose.
Demonstrations and discussion will also cover glazing and decorating strategies for each part of the bowl. We will learn how function drives form in bowls related to specific uses, including ramen, cereal, nesting, pasta, soup, fruit, and rice bowls. Discussion and demonstrations will also cover glazing and decorating considerations for different parts of your bowls.
