Monday Evenings, 6:30-9:30pm

Class Dates: June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; July 6

Instructor: Marie Wright

Location: Sculpture + Handbuilding Studio

Skill Level: Advanced

Ready to put your glaze chemistry knowledge into practice? This class is designed for students who have already taken an introductory glaze chemistry course and want to continue exploring experimental surface design through a mosaic project.

Over six weeks, each student will design and create a mosaic using handmade clay tiles glazed with their own test glazes. We’ll review and build on concepts from Glaze Chemistry 1 while exploring color, texture, and glaze testing in the context of a cohesive finished design. Students will learn how to translate an image or idea into a scalable tile pattern, create and bisque fire their tiles, and develop glaze combinations that bring their vision to life.

By the end of the session, students will have a completed set of glaze-fired tiles ready to assemble into a mosaic at home or with the help of a professional tile setter.

Please note: there will not be time or materials during class to mortar and grout the final mosaic. No wheel work will be covered in class, though students are welcome to use the wheel during open studio time.
