Handbuilding is the oldest method of pottery-making and offers an approachable, hands-on introduction to working with clay. In this multi-level class, students will create functional pieces using only their hands and simple tools. Through a combination of group demonstrations and individualized instruction, students will learn and practice the foundational techniques of coil, pinch, and slab, as well as how to combine and expand them to create more complex forms.
The class will also explore texture, surface decoration, and glazing methods, helping students develop both form and finish. More experienced students will have the opportunity to refine their skills and take on more ambitious projects.
