Pots with Personality: Thrown and Altered Forms with Mark Peters
Sunday, August 17th: 10 am–5 pm (includes a one-hour lunch break)
Join us for a full-day demonstration with North Carolina potter, teacher, and kiln designer Mark Peters of Pine Root Pottery. While grounded in function, Mark’s work stands out for its organic forms—often altered or assembled off the wheel to create pots that are both loose and expressive, yet boldly structured.
Throughout the day, Mark will demonstrate a range of approachable techniques for throwing and altering simple forms, with a special focus on lidded pots. He’ll also share some of his signature surface treatments--stamping, texturing, and faceting--that add character and interest to functional pots. Come ready to observe, learn, and spark new ideas for your own studio practice!
About our Presenter:
Mark holds an MFA from the University of Tennessee and has taught ceramics at Appalachian State University. His work has been featured in ceramic exhibitions throughout the United States and in numerous books and magazines. Mark is currently an onsite artist at Cedar Creek Gallery in Creedmoor, NC.
