Session 5: Crystalline Glazing, Part 2, Monday Evenings
Monday Evenings, 6:30-9:30 pm
Class Dates: July 21, 28: August 4, 11, 18, 25
Instructor: Marie Wright
Location: Wheel Studio 1
Skill Level: Advanced
***Students who did not take Part 1 of this class are welcome to register; prior crystalline throwing and glazing experience is required.***
Crystalline glazes are some of the most challenging to achieve consistency with. This class is a continuation of our prior work in Session 4, and will focus on learning and practicing the many details that will lead to success with these elusive beauties. We will be working in porcelain, so it’s a good opportunity to try out porcelain if it’s a new clay for you. (A bag of porcelain is included with your class fee.)
We will also work on improving throwing technique, creating wider bellies and narrower necks. The glazes we will use are cone 10: the glazes will be pre-mixed for this class, but all recipes will be provided, as well as the crystalline firing schedule.
Classes meet Monday nights over two consecutive sessions (Sessions 4 & 5). Session 4 is a deep dive into learning and experimenting; in the past, we’ve only filled the kiln once during that time.In Session 5, you’ll hit your stride—expect to be firing nearly every week and seeing some truly exciting results.
