Session 1: Pottery 101: Introduction to Clay, Wednesday Mornings
Brand new to ceramics? This class will introduce you to the basics of working with clay. Students will gain experience on the potter's wheel, and learn the principal handbuilding methods: pinch, coil, and slab construction. Students can expect to use these methods to make cups, mugs, bowls, vases, etc. We will also cover some popular methods for decorating our pieces with slips (diluted clay in various colors), and, finally, finish our pots with glaze (a coating of various colors of glass). Through this class, you will discover your preferred methods for expressing yourself in clay, and establish a basis for further studies. This class is especially suited to the beginning clay student.
