Handle Making Tutorial
A two day, concentrated class with Marsha Owen
Sunday, February 12, 2017; 10:00 am to 1:00 pm &
Sunday, February 19, 2017; 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
This skill building class will give students the opportunity to focus entirely on handle making. Numerous examples will be available for students to look at closely and to discuss, while determining if the type of handle chosen for a given form is appropriate, and developing criteria for what makes an effective handle. Demonstrations will include pulling handles off the pot, but solutions to making successful handles separately will also be explored.
If possible, each student should bring several pieces of work to the first class that are at the leather-hard stage and ready for the addition of handles (mugs, casseroles, lids, or any forms of particular interest to the student). Bring questions, as well! In both classes, students will have the opportunity to practice the demonstrated techniques, as they continue to refine and work toward comfort and ease in executing this very challenging skill.
Participants must be at an intermediate or higher skill level, and be comfortable working at the wheel.
Tools & Supplies: Students should bring standard clay tools. Bring a lunch, or plan on lunch nearby. Participants are welcome to work in the studio in the evenings.
______
