Session 7: Do You Know What’s Coming Next?, Saturday Mornings
Hint: “No, I don’t,” is a great start. This course invites students to spend a little time out on the hot edges where their work is still unformed and forming. We will reflect on, empathically critique, and seek movement forward in our work.
This class is ideal for the student who is looking to deepen in their work and process, and willing to lean into parts of their work that are unknown and unexplored. In this class, we’ll take time to reflect on ideas we have been working on, forms we’ve been meaning to investigate but haven’t, ways of working we’ve wanted to try but haven’t gotten around to.
Students will work on pieces in a series (of their choosing) as a means to hone their skills, personal voice, and aesthetic. Within the framework of each student’s choosing, we will together seek that next step, that unasked question, that unintended outcome.
Space and time for making will be paired with conversation and critique. We will also look together at working artists near and far; students will be invited to see their work within the larger context of contemporary ceramic culture. Come with your morning coffee hot and your curiosity intact!
Intermediate/Advanced students only, please. Though this class will focus on handbuilding, wheel-throwers are welcome. Students should bring a sketchbook.
Note: Class will not meet on Saturday, November 30th.
