Session 5: Coil Built Pottery, Saturday mornings
Coil Built Pottery (Session 5)
Coil building is one of the most ancient methods of forming clay, and is still highly relevant, both for functional vessels and for sculpture. We will form coils by hand and with an extruder, and practice construction techniques with them, giving our pieces interesting textures determined by the medium. We will also venture far in time and space by examining some famous coiling traditions: Jōmon pottery of Neolithic Japan, black pottery of Oaxaca, Mexico, and pottery of the Yoruba people of Nigeria.
Saturday mornings, 10:00-1:00
