Session 5: Intro to Clay Sculpture, Tuesday evenings
Intro to Clay Sculpture, Tuesday evenings (Session 5)
This class introduces the central techniques of clay sculpting, from choosing and preparing materials to a variety of basic forming and finishing practices. Weekly lessons present fundamental construction techniques: hollowing out solid forms, working with several types of armatures or other methods for support, or fabricating work with slabs or extrusions. Students will gain an understanding of clay’s properties and learn how to plan for and address challenges such as weight, drying, cracking, and shrinkage during firing. An overview of glazing/finishing options will support students’ final work.
