Classes at Claymakers meet for three hours, once each week, for the length of the session. Most sessions are seven weeks long. Enrollment in a seven-week session class is $205 and includes 25 pounds of clay and Open Studio Hours (see Information for Students). There is a $10 discount for Early Registration.
Classes are taught at the adult level, but are open to teens age 16 and older with permission of their parents. Younger teens may enroll in some of the classes with the permission of instructors who feel that their class is appropriate for a younger person. Because the studios at Claymakers are professional-level studios, we do not teach classes for children.
We offer classes in wheel throwing at all levels. Students who are new to the wheel will need to start with "Beginning and Beyond", "Clay for All" or another class that states "appropriate for beginners." These classes teach the basics of wedging, centering, pulling up a ball of clay, and forming skills.
Once these basic skills are mastered, students are welcome to move on to Continuing Wheel or any of our topics-based classes or surface design/firing classes. These classes are appropriate for everyone from advanced beginners to advanced professionals. Each person is encouraged to work at his or her own level while continuing to acquire new skills and techniques.
Hand Building Classes
We offer both Functional and Sculptural Hand Building Classes. Most classes are appropriate for students at all skill levels, from beginning to advanced.
Surface Decoration, Glazing, and Firing Classes
These classes are open to both wheel-throwers and hand-builders. The emphasis of these classes is on "finishing" pieces--surface treatments, glazes and types of firings.
